Tour highlights

Take part in a hands-on workshop to make three signature specialties—bánh đúc (nutty rice flan cake with soup), chè lam (nutty ginger sticky rice bar), and bánh rợm (sticky rice dumpling) —from preparing the ingredients to completing the finished products, gaining a deeper appreciation for the craftsmanship and flavors of traditional Vietnamese cuisine.

  • Guided by skilled artisans from Giang Biên, explore the history of the village’s traditional hammock-weaving craft. Learn the fundamental weaving techniques and try your hand at the first steps of this time-honored craft, which has been passed down through generations of local families.

Suggested tour itinerary

  • 10:00 AM – Arrive at the Roots Journey Farm in Giang Biên, Việt Hưng, Hanoi.
  • 10:00 AM – 12:00 PM – Join local artisans to learn the stories behind traditional Vietnamese cakes and take part in a hands-on workshop making three specialties: bánh đúc, chè lam, and bánh rợm.
  • 12:00 PM – 12:30 PM – Relax and enjoy the traditional cakes you have just made.
  • 12:30 PM – 1:30 PM – Discover the traditions of Vietnamese tea culture, learn traditional tea-brewing techniques, and enjoy freshly brewed tea paired with your handmade cakes.
  • 1:30 PM – 1:45 PM – Explore the traditional craft of hammock weaving and learn the basic techniques from local artisans.
  • 1:45 PM – 2:00 PM – Bid farewell to Giang Biên and conclude your cultural experience.
